The Story Behind the Design

The Deer Mother is a guardian figure drawn from northern folklore. Her antlers become branches scattered with stars, bringing together woodland, sky and the changing seasons in a single engraving.

Across the far north, stories speak of great deer who sustain both people and wilderness, figures that embody the enduring relationship between animals, forests and the changing seasons. Drawing inspiration from Sámi folklore, this engraving reimagines the Deer Mother as a guardian whose presence belongs as much to the landscape as to legend.

Her antlers are transformed into living branches that reach towards the stars, allowing woodland and night sky to become part of the same form.

The design explores the shared themes of renewal, guidance and the quiet connection between the natural world and those who move through it.

Created for the Winter Spirits collection, the Deer Mother represents the stillness and resilience of the northern landscape, where mythology and nature remain inseparable.

Developed specifically for glass, the composition preserves movement and clarity while allowing the finer details to emerge as light moves across the engraved surface.

The Glass

Taller tulip-bowled wine glass with elongated stem and refined proportions, offering an expanded engraving field and elevated visual line.

  • Height 235 mm
  • Width 90 mm
  • Capacity 90 ml

The Atelier wine glass features a taller bowl profile and slimmer stem compared to the Signature version, creating a more elongated silhouette. The additional bowl height provides a larger engraving area, allowing detailed crests, monograms or multi-line inscriptions to be positioned with improved spacing and clarity.

The refined stem and balanced foot contribute to a lighter visual profile while maintaining stability for display and table presentation.

Each piece is engraved in our Fife studio using traditional sandblasting, chosen for its depth, clarity and permanence.
