The Story Behind the Design
Inspired by the Aurora Borealis, this wraparound engraving captures ribbons of light flowing across the northern sky above a distant horizon. Fine vertical lines build shifting curtains of light, creating a composition that changes subtly as the vessel is turned.
Across the northern world, the aurora has inspired stories long before it was scientifically understood. It has been imagined as spirits, celestial fire and messages moving across the winter sky.
This engraving explores that sense of mystery through movement. Sweeping bands of finely engraved lines rise above a simple horizon, their changing heights suggesting the flowing curtains of light that move across the darkness. Small stars remain scattered through the composition, keeping the night sky present without competing with the aurora itself.
