From there, the work moves through a structured design process of interpretation, development and refinement, with an Engraving Layout issued for review and approval before engraving begins.

How Each Commission Is Prepared

    Bespoke Design Service

    Your design is interpreted, redrawn and refined specifically for engraving, with careful attention to proportion, spacing, line weight and clarity.

    An Engraving Layout is prepared and issued for review and approval.

    Engraved With Care

    Once approved for production, the design is masked and sandblasted by hand, producing a crisp, satin finish with depth and permanence.

    Each piece is engraved in our Fife studio and prepared for presentation or dispatch.

Bespoke Design Service Fees

Every bespoke commission requires appropriate artwork preparation for engraving. Where supplied artwork is already suitable and requires only straightforward preparation, this may be included within the commission price.

Where interpretation, redrawing, adaptation or more substantial design development is required, a separate Bespoke Design Service fee will apply.

More complex design development from £60

Once your enquiry has been reviewed, you'll receive a Bespoke Commission Summary confirming the agreed brief, any applicable Bespoke Design Service fee and the total price of the finished commission before design work begins.

What the Bespoke Design Service May Include

Depending on the commission, design work may include:

  • redrawing supplied artwork for engraving
  • interpreting photographs, sketches or historical references
  • refining line weight and internal detail
  • simplifying complex or layered artwork while retaining its character
  • developing typography and composition
  • adapting layouts for curved or tapered glassware
  • preparing the Engraving Layout for review and approval
  • Original artwork and prepared engraving of a coat of arms with detailed animals and text.
  • Original artwork of a horse with a rider and a prepared engraving version on a white background.
  • Two logos for Sherborne St John Social Club with original and engraving artwork displayed side by side.
