About This Commission
Handwriting records more than the words themselves. It carries the particular hand of the person who wrote them, at a particular moment in their life.
The same person’s writing can change over time. Letters become less certain, more deliberate, quicker, heavier or lighter. A correction remains visible. A familiar signature develops. Those differences are part of the original document and part of what makes handwritten material so individual.
A handwritten letter or note can also communicate differently from something typed or sent instantly. It asks to be read at its own pace, and the physical act of writing becomes part of what has been communicated.
This bespoke glass display plaque is created from original handwriting supplied by the client, including letters, notes, cards, signatures, certificates and other written material. The source is prepared for engraving while retaining the character of the original hand, with only the adjustments needed to create a clear composition on glass.
Names, dates, additional wording or more than one handwriting sample can be incorporated where appropriate. Each commission is assessed individually, with the final composition prepared for approval before engraving.

The Commission Process
Each commission begins with the personal material you would like us to include, whether handwriting, a map, an inscription or another source. We review what you send and shape the engraving around the piece being created.
Original Material
Send us a clear photograph, scan or other source material together with the details you would like included. We assess suitability and agree the direction before design preparation begins.
Design & Engraving Layout
The material is prepared for engraving and arranged as a considered composition for the chosen piece. An Engraving Layout is then shared for review, with one consolidated refinement included within the agreed brief.
Approval, Engraving & Presentation
Once approved, the piece is engraved and checked in our Fife studio before being prepared for presentation or dispatch.
