Bespoke Commission & Artwork Terms

The following information explains how bespoke commissions are developed at Engraved Glass Design, from the initial artwork stage through to engraving and dispatch.

1. Artwork Preparation

Every bespoke commission begins with an artwork stage.

This is a professional design service during which supplied material is assessed and prepared specifically for engraved glass. Depending on the nature of the commission, this may include interpretation of reference material, redrawing artwork, preparing historical documents, typography, layout development and the production of an engraving proof.

Artwork is developed for the characteristics of engraved glass, ensuring the finished piece is balanced, legible and suitable for the chosen glassware or display plaque.

2. Artwork Fees

Artwork preparation is charged separately from the finished engraved piece.

Artwork invoices must be paid before artwork preparation begins.

Once work has commenced, artwork fees are non refundable, as they relate to professional design services already undertaken, regardless of whether the commission proceeds to engraving.

Where an artwork fee forms part of a larger commission, it is deducted from the overall commission price.

3. Proof Approval

Once the artwork has been prepared, a proof will be supplied for review before engraving begins.

Please check all factual information carefully, including:

  • spelling
  • wording
  • names
  • dates
  • numbers
  • layout

If any factual corrections are required, simply let me know and I'll update the proof where appropriate.

Engraving will only begin once the artwork has been approved.

4. Amendments

Reasonable amendments requested during the artwork stage are included as part of the commissioning process.

Requests that substantially alter the original brief, introduce additional artwork or require significant redesign after work has commenced may require a revised quotation or an additional artwork charge.

5. Artwork & Copyright

All artwork produced by Engraved Glass Design remains the intellectual property of Engraved Glass Design unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Artwork proofs are supplied solely for the purpose of approving the commissioned engraving and may not be reproduced, copied or used for any other purpose.

6. Engraving

Each piece is individually engraved to order.

As every commission is prepared and engraved by hand, minor variations are part of the handcrafted nature of the process and contribute to the individuality of each finished piece.

7. Balance Payment

For bespoke commissions, the remaining balance becomes payable once the artwork has been approved and before engraving begins.

Production will commence once the balance has been received.

8. Cancellations

If a commission is cancelled before artwork preparation / design development has begun, any artwork payment received will be refunded.

If artwork preparation / design development has already commenced, the artwork fee remains payable as outlined above.

Where engraving has begun, the commission cannot be cancelled.

9. Timescales

Artwork preparation / design development typically takes 3 to 5 working days, depending on the complexity of the commission.

Once the artwork has been approved and the balance received (where applicable), engraving and dispatch are typically completed within 3 to 5 working days.

Complex commissions may require additional time, in which case this will be discussed before work begins.
