The Story Behind the Design
Not every Scottish legend is ancient or mysterious. Some exist simply because they’re too good not to tell.
According to the tale, the Wild Haggis developed legs of different lengths so it could run around steep Highland hillsides without tumbling down the slope. The explanation has been delivered with complete seriousness to generations of unsuspecting visitors.
The engraving shows a determined little haggis standing proudly on its uneven legs, accompanied by the inscription Wild Haggis. Legends Never Run Straight. The words themselves undulate beneath the creature, carrying the joke into the lettering.
It is Scottish folklore with its tongue firmly in its cheek.
