The Story Behind the Design

Some people leave a lasting mark — not just on our lives, but on our hearts.

This personalised glass plaque lets you turn your gratitude into something lasting. Whether it’s a favourite image, meaningful quote, family message, or a few heartfelt words from one child to their teacher, we engrave your custom text by hand onto a high-quality glass plaque, making it a keepsake to treasure.

Perfect for end-of-year thanks, retirement tributes, or personal notes that deserve more permanence than a card, each plaque is made to order in our Scottish studio.

A thoughtful way to say: You made a difference.

What Makes It Special:

  • Fully customisable wording — from quotes to poems to messages of thanks
  • Elegant typography with optional layout suggestions
  • Deeply engraved using traditional sandblasting (not printed or vinyl)
  • Display-ready with included chrome pin
  • Wrapped in tissue as standard, optional presentation box available

Perfect For:

  • Teachers, teaching assistants, nursery staff
  • Music tutors, sports coaches, mentors
  • Retirement messages
  • Classroom group gifts or individual thank-yous
  • A meaningful upgrade from cards or bouquets

Engraving & Personalisation

Maximum characters: 30

Complimentary engraving includes up to 30 characters placed on the same side as the design. We always aim for a layout that balances beautifully and suits the shape of the glass, but final positioning is at the discretion of the studio.

If you'd like to go beyond the complimentary allowance, additional characters are charged at 30p each. Contact Us for more details.

Before engraving begins, you’ll receive an email with a digital proof of your layout. Please check all spelling, dates, names, punctuation, and design placement carefully.

As each piece is engraved to your specification, personalised orders cannot be returned once artwork has been approved.

Traditional Sandblast Engraving

For over four decades, every glass that leaves our studio has been engraved using a time-honoured sandblasting technique, a craft rooted in precision, patience, and the belief that meaningful gifts deserve more than a quick machine-made mark. Unlike surface printing or shallow laser etching, sandblast engraving cuts softly into the glass to create a deep, permanent finish with a beautifully tactile feel. It’s the reason our designs look crisp from every angle and remain flawless for a lifetime.

  1. Artwork Refined With Care

Your chosen design or personalisation is transformed into precise vector artwork, a format that captures every fine line, curve, and serif. This allows us to prepare an engraving layout that balances perfectly on the shape of the glass. Whether it’s a portrait, a crest, or a message, every element is positioned by hand to ensure it sits naturally within the piece.

  2. Creating the Single-Use Stencil

The artwork is then transferred onto a specialist stencil using UV exposure. Each stencil is created for one single engraving only, never reused, which means the edges remain sharp and the details stay crisp. The stencil is carefully hand-applied and burnished onto the glass to protect every area that should remain clear.

  3. Hand-Engraved Using Fine Aluminium Oxide

The glass is taken into the blasting cabinet, where a controlled stream of fine aluminium oxide gently cuts into the exposed areas of the surface. This stage is done entirely by hand, allowing us to deepen lines, soften shading, and shape textures in a way machines simply cannot replicate. Each piece takes time — but the result is unmistakable: a smooth satin finish with real depth and character.

  4. Finishing, Polishing & Inspection

Once engraved, the stencil is removed and the glass is thoroughly cleaned and polished to reveal the final detail. Every piece is then checked for balance, clarity, depth and alignment. Only when it meets our studio’s standards is it gift-boxed and ready to become part of someone’s story.

Sandblast engraving has been at the heart of our work since 1982. It remains the most beautiful and enduring method of personalising glass, a blend of heritage craft and modern precision. From small keepsakes to intricate commissions, every piece is made by hand, one at a time, from our studio in Fife.
