About This Commission

An invitation often brings together the details that give an occasion its particular identity, from carefully chosen wording and typography to illustrations and decorative artwork.

This engraved glass display plaque offers a way to present those elements as a composition in glass, whether the original invitation was created for a wedding, anniversary, birthday celebration or another significant event.

The example shown was developed from an invitation featuring a sailing yacht. Its illustration, lettering and decorative details were interpreted for the glass, with multistage sandblast engraving used to introduce depth and definition to the yacht.

Each commission begins with an assessment of the original invitation or artwork. The elements to be retained, the suitability of the material and any specialist engraving requirements are considered before the design brief and costs are confirmed.

The jade glass rectangle features a substantial 10mm thickness with polished edges and a clean, contemporary profile. Its balanced proportions allow it to be displayed either vertically or horizontally using the supplied chrome pin stand.

The flat engraving surface provides clarity for logos, crests and presentation text, making it suited to corporate recognition, lodge awards and formal commemorative pieces.

The Commission Process

Each commission begins with the personal material you would like us to include, whether handwriting, a map, an inscription or another source. We review what you send and shape the engraving around the piece being created.

Original Material

Original Material

Send us a clear photograph, scan or other source material together with the details you would like included. We assess suitability and agree the direction before design preparation begins.

Design & Engraving Layout

Design & Engraving Layout

The material is prepared for engraving and arranged as a considered composition for the chosen piece. An Engraving Layout is then shared for review, with one consolidated refinement included within the agreed brief.

Approval, Engraving & Presentation

Approval, Engraving & Presentation

Once approved, the piece is engraved and checked in our Fife studio before being prepared for presentation or dispatch.

Handwritten signatures, messages and other original material may require our Bespoke Design Service. This covers the interpretation, redrawing, refinement and composition required to prepare the material specifically for sandblast engraving. The design requirements and applicable fee will be confirmed following initial review.

Approved artwork is retained within our studio archive, making it straightforward to commission additional pieces using the same design. Where the existing artwork can be used without further design work, an additional Design & Layout Fee will not normally apply.
