The Story Behind the Design
Ben Nevis viewed from Corpach, where Britain's highest mountain rises above Loch Linnhe and the entrance to the Great Glen.
Ben Nevis is shown from Corpach, where the mountain rises above Loch Linnhe at the western entrance to the Great Glen. Prepared from reference photography and interpreted for engraving, the composition captures the broad western slopes reflected across the water, preserving the scale and presence that make this one of the mountain's best known viewpoints.
Drawn specifically for engraving on glass, the composition simplifies and adjusts natural detail while preserving the character of the landscape. Variations in line weight and texture allow the changing light to reveal different parts of the scene as the glass is turned. Line weight, spacing and proportion are carefully adjusted throughout the design to suit the form and scale of the glass.
The engraving is arranged to preserve the character and proportions of the landscape, maintaining clarity and recognisability when engraved.
