The Story Behind the Design
The route of the West Highland Way, following ancient drove roads, glens and mountain passes from Milngavie to Fort William
The West Highland Way is one of Britain's best known long distance trails, crossing 96 miles of changing landscapes from the outskirts of Glasgow to the foot of Ben Nevis. For many walkers, the route is remembered as a sequence of places, each marking the progress of the journey.
Prepared specifically for engraving, this wraparound illustration follows the line of the trail itself, linking each of the principal stopping points from Milngavie through Drymen, Balmaha, Inverarnan, Crianlarich, Tyndrum and Kinlochleven before reaching Fort William. The continuous route encircles the glass, creating a design that reflects the experience of travelling the path from beginning to end.
Developed as a continuous wrap around engraving, the composition moves uninterrupted around the glass, changing as light passes through.
