The Story Behind the Design
The Old Man of Storr on Skye, where a dramatic rock pinnacle rises above the Trotternish Ridge and the surrounding coastline
The Old Man of Storr rises from the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye, where a dramatic rock pinnacle stands above cliffs, landslips and the island's eastern coastline. Its distinctive silhouette has made it one of Scotland's most recognisable landscapes and a defining feature of Skye.
Prepared from reference photography and interpreted for engraving, the composition preserves the towering pinnacle, surrounding rock formations and the broad landscape beyond while simplifying detail for clarity on glass. Careful use of line, contrast and proportion creates an engraving that remains crisp, enduring and true to the character of this remarkable place.
The engraving is arranged to preserve the character and proportions of the landscape, maintaining clarity and recognisability when engraved.
