The Story Behind the Design

The principal symbols of the Entered Apprentice Degree brought together as a coordinated three piece whisky set, with the tracing board, Square & Compasses, and Working Tools each engraved onto a separate piece.

The Entered Apprentice Degree introduces the foundations of Craft Freemasonry through a collection of symbols that accompany the Mason on the first stage of his journey.

This three piece whisky set brings those symbols together across the decanter and two matching glasses. The apothecary style decanter is engraved with the First Degree Tracing Board, presenting the rich symbolic landscape that accompanies the ceremonies of initiation. One whisky glass carries the Square & Compasses as presented within the Entered Apprentice Degree, while the second is engraved with the Working Tools of the First Degree: the Twenty Four Inch Gauge, Common Gavel and Chisel.

Each engraving is prepared individually using our traditional sandblasting process, creating a crisp permanent finish that reveals the detail of every design. Presented together, the three pieces form a complete interpretation of the visual language of the Entered Apprentice Degree.

The engraving is centred and spaced to maintain balance within the available engraving area.

The Glass

The apothecary bottle is chosen for its clean cylindrical body and broad engraving surface, allowing the Tracing Board to sit clearly and proportionally.

The straight-sided whisky tumblers are selected for balance and weight. Their solid base and clean wall provide an ideal canvas for detailed engraving while remaining practical for regular use.

Each piece is individually prepared and engraved in our Fife studio. From masking to blasting and final polish, the process is deliberate and controlled, producing a crisp, permanent finish.
