The Story Behind the Design
An Ichthyosaur fossil based on palaeontological reference material, celebrating one of the great marine reptiles of the Jurassic seas.
Ichthyosaurs were among the most successful marine reptiles of the Mesozoic Era, evolving streamlined bodies, powerful tails and large eyes that allowed them to hunt beneath ancient seas over 180 million years ago. Their remarkably preserved fossils have helped palaeontologists understand both prehistoric oceans and the evolution of life on Earth.
This engraved design is based on palaeontological reference material, combining a complete skeletal reconstruction with a detailed study of the skull. An ammonite preserved within the eye socket references the marine environment in which these animals lived and the fossil discoveries that continue to reveal their story. Prepared specifically for engraving, the composition balances scientific accuracy with the clarity needed for glass.
Line weight and spacing are adjusted to retain definition across finer engraved elements.
