The Story Behind the Design
Traditional Welsh Lovespoon reinterpreted for engraved glassware celebrating love, commitment, weddings, anniversaries and shared milestones.
The Welsh Llwy Garu, or Lovespoon, has been carved and exchanged for centuries as a symbol of affection, commitment and good fortune. Traditionally given to express love and intention, each element carried its own meaning, with hearts representing love, keys symbolising the promise of a shared home and other motifs reflecting prosperity, loyalty and protection.
Rather than reproducing the original wooden spoon directly, this engraved interpretation adapts its symbolic language into a balanced composition for glass. Hearts, keys, daffodils and the Welsh dragon are brought together within a flowing decorative arrangement that preserves the character of the traditional Lovespoon while responding to the proportions of each individual piece. Every line is prepared specifically for sandblasting so the finished engraving remains crisp, balanced and permanent.
Line weight and spacing are adjusted to retain definition across finer engraved elements.
