A 360° Engraved Bowl: Jardin Wraparound
Share
This commission used the Jardin design as a full 360° engraving around a presentation bowl.
The piece was prepared as a continuous scene, with a personalised inscription marking 25 years at the Village Show in Keysoe.
Reference and Layout
The artwork was divided into three sections so the composition could flow around the bowl without repeated elements falling directly opposite one another. Placement was first tested in paper form, with spacing and continuity adjusted before stencil preparation.
The bowl’s shape allows the Jardin engraving to be read as a continuous scene, with different parts of the composition becoming visible as the piece is turned.
The personalised inscription was incorporated into the scene so that it formed part of the overall composition while still marking the occasion clearly.
Preparation
Each section was prepared as part of a single-use stencil.
The inscription was prepared separately and positioned within the overall layout so that it remained balanced with the surrounding artwork.
Engraving
Once applied, the stencil was engraved using sandblasting.
As engraving progresses, visibility through the stencil reduces, so the initial alignment has to be resolved before sandblasting begins. Final checks are made through alignment and surface feel before the stencil is removed.
Outcome
The finished bowl presents a continuous engraved scene, with the design moving uninterrupted around the full circumference.
Prepared in separate sections but intended to be experienced as a single composition, the piece demonstrates how a wraparound engraving can use the form of the glassware itself as part of the design.
