The Three Peaks: A Place-Led Glassware Collection

This collection explores three well-known mountain challenges through a series of engraved landscape compositions.

Rather than focusing on individual summits, each design brings together three peaks associated with a recognised walking challenge, creating a complete landscape across the engraving.

Three Peaks. Three Designs.

The collection currently includes:

National Three Peaks

Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

The highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, commonly linked through the National Three Peaks Challenge.

Welsh Three Peaks

Cadair Idris, Pen y Fan and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

Three distinctive Welsh summits brought together within a single landscape composition.

Yorkshire Three Peaks

Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent.

A design built around the classic Yorkshire route, incorporating the characteristic forms of all three peaks.

Building the Landscapes

Rather than presenting mountains in isolation, the engravings draw on the wider landscape of each challenge. Features such as the Ribblehead Viaduct are incorporated where they form part of the character and identity of the route.

The individual summits are arranged to create a continuous landscape, allowing the engraving to wrap around the glass while maintaining the identity of each peak.

Summit heights and supporting information are incorporated into the design, linking the engraving back to the route itself.

Preparation for Glass

The compositions are adjusted to suit different glass forms, with spacing, scale and line weight refined during preparation to ensure the landscapes remain clear once engraved.

The completed artwork is transferred to stencil and sandblasted to create a consistent etched finish.

Outcome

The result is a collection centred on journeys rather than individual mountains.

Each engraving references a recognised challenge while retaining the character of the landscapes that define it.
