The Story Behind the Design

The lotus has a long history within Hindu and Buddhist traditions, where it appears in religious, philosophical and decorative contexts. At the centre of this composition is the Om symbol, surrounded by a stylised lotus drawn in flowing geometric forms.

Beneath the flower, a sequence of lunar phases extends the composition vertically, with dotted geometric elements linking the individual sections of the design. The arrangement brings together several familiar symbolic forms within a single structured illustration.

The emphasis is on the relationship between the lotus, Om symbol and lunar sequence, with line, spacing and symmetry used to keep the composition clear on glass.

A short personal inscription may be included with this design. Each engraving is arranged in the studio to suit the composition of the glass.
