The Story Behind the Design
The Five Noble Orders of architecture presented as a study of proportion, ornament and the evolution of classical design.
The Five Noble Orders trace the development of classical architecture, from the restrained simplicity of the Tuscan and Doric columns through the elegance of the Ionic order to the richly ornamented Corinthian and Composite capitals. For centuries these forms have provided a common architectural language, influencing buildings across Europe and beyond.
This engraved design presents each order as an individual study while allowing the sequence to wrap naturally around the glass. The changing proportions, fluting and decorative capitals reveal how a simple structural element evolved into increasingly elaborate architectural forms. Prepared specifically for engraving, the composition celebrates the precision, craftsmanship and enduring influence of classical design.
The composition is arranged to sit cleanly within the glass, allowing the form to remain legible without crowding the surface.
