The Story Behind the Design
An architectural study of Fallingwater, exploring cantilever, landscape and the relationship between structure and nature.
Completed in 1939 and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater is regarded as one of the defining works of twentieth century architecture. Rather than sitting within its landscape, the house is built directly over the waterfall, its projecting terraces extending into the surrounding woodland as though they have grown from the rock itself.
This engraving interprets Fallingwater through its distinctive horizontal forms, cantilevered concrete terraces and strong geometric composition. The architectural lines are reduced to their essential structure while subtle landscape details provide context. Prepared specifically for engraving, the composition celebrates the dialogue between engineering, architecture and the natural world, allowing the clarity of the design to translate cleanly onto glass.
The composition is arranged to sit cleanly within the glass, allowing the form to remain legible without crowding the surface.
