The Story Behind the Design
Temple Island, the iconic riverside landmark marking the start of the Henley Royal Regatta course
Standing at the head of the Henley Royal Regatta course, Temple Island is one of the most recognisable landmarks on the River Thames. Its distinctive eighteenth century pavilion, reflected in the surrounding water and framed by mature trees, has become an enduring feature of British rowing.
This illustration concentrates on the architecture and riverside setting, carefully redrawn to preserve the pavilion's proportions and classical details while remaining clear when engraved onto glass. The result is a study of place and landscape, celebrating one of the most recognisable scenes in the sporting calendar.
The engraving is prepared as a coordinated composition across the set, with each piece adjusted to suit its individual engraving area.
