The Story Behind the Design

Ben More on the Isle of Mull, the island's only Munro, rising directly from the surrounding coastline and sea lochs

Ben More is shown rising above the coastline of the Isle of Mull, where the island's only Munro dominates the surrounding landscape. Prepared from reference photography and interpreted for engraving, the composition captures the relationship between mountain, shoreline and sea, preserving the broad profile that makes Ben More visible from much of the island.

Drawn specifically for engraving on glass, the composition simplifies and adjusts natural detail while preserving the character of the mountain. Variations in line weight and texture allow the changing light to reveal different parts of the landscape as the glass is turned, creating an illustration that rewards repeated viewing. Line weight, spacing and proportion are carefully adjusted throughout the design to suit the form and scale of the glass.

The engraving is arranged to preserve the character and proportions of the landscape, maintaining clarity and recognisability when engraved.
