The Story Behind the Design
An abstract interpretation of the standing wave pattern formed on a vibrating drumhead during a paradiddle, transforming rhythm and sound into an engraved geometric composition.
Most people hear a drum. Few ever see what it leaves behind.
When a drumhead vibrates, energy travels across its surface in complex standing wave patterns. Areas of movement and stillness combine to produce intricate geometric forms that exist for only a fraction of a second before disappearing again. They are fundamental to the way percussion works, yet almost entirely hidden from view.
This engraved design is inspired by those fleeting structures. Rather than depicting drums or drumsticks, it captures the invisible geometry created by rhythm itself, interpreting sound through physics and pattern. Prepared specifically for engraving, the composition transforms an unseen moment into a permanent design, celebrating the meeting of music, mathematics and motion.
Line weight and spacing are adjusted to retain definition across finer engraved elements.
