Coordinated Masonic Presentation: Decanter Set and Glass Award
Share
This commission involved preparing two presentation pieces for a single lodge meeting, each marking a different office.
The Commission
The first piece was an engraved apothecary decanter with two matching gin glasses.
The second was a jade glass presentation award.
Although separate in purpose, both were prepared to sit consistently in tone, layout and finish.
Decanter and Glassware
The decanter set was engraved with the lodge crest, redrawn for glass to ensure clarity and depth.
The accompanying glasses carried the Square and Compasses, with all elements scaled and spaced to maintain consistency across the set.
Glass Award
The award required a different approach.
The chosen form introduced an asymmetrical engraving area, with a bevel that changes width across the surface. This meant the usable field could not be treated as a standard rectangle.
Layout and Alignment
The shape was mapped before the engraving layout was prepared.
Horizontal reference lines were drawn across the full height of the glass. Measurements were taken from the centre line to the inner edge of the bevel, allowing the layout to follow the actual geometry of the piece rather than an assumed shape.
Only once this field was established were the crest, text and supporting elements positioned.
Engraving
Both pieces were transferred to stencil and sandblasted, producing a consistent etched finish across glassware and award.
Outcome
The completed work forms a coordinated presentation, with each piece resolved according to its form while maintaining a consistent visual approach.
