The Story Behind the Design
The first of the Four Morning Drams. An engraved whisky glass featuring the traditional Scots Gaelic expression Sgailc nid, meaning "the blow of the nest", with pronunciation and explanation.
Sgailc nid marks the beginning of the traditional sequence of the Four Morning Drams. Literally translated as "the blow of the nest", it refers to the first dram taken before leaving the warmth of bed.
The design presents the original Scots Gaelic phrase alongside its pronunciation and a brief explanation, allowing the language itself to remain the focus. Simple typography and generous spacing create a clean, understated composition that celebrates both whisky tradition and Scotland's linguistic heritage.
The engraving is centred and spaced to maintain balance within the available engraving area.
