The Story Behind the Design

A stag emerging from flowing Celtic inspired linework, where interwoven forms create a continuous composition that merges wildlife with ornament.

The stag emerges gradually from a network of flowing lines, its form revealed through a continuous composition where Celtic inspired ornament becomes part of the animal itself. Rather than surrounding the figure, the linework shapes its body before continuing through the design, creating a sense of movement that unfolds with each viewing.

Long associated with the Scottish landscape, the stag has appeared in Celtic art and storytelling for centuries as a symbol of the natural world. This interpretation moves beyond traditional knotwork, using rhythm, flowing line and carefully considered composition to create a contemporary engraving that draws on those influences without directly reproducing them.

Part of the Entwined Echoes collection, the design explores the way forms, stories and memory become intertwined over time. Created specifically for engraved glass, it rewards close observation as new paths, details and relationships emerge within the composition.

The engraving is arranged so that form and knotwork flow together as a single continuous composition, preserving clarity and rhythm when engraved.
