Royal Arch Engraving: A Personalised Whisky Glass

This piece centres on the engraving of a Royal Arch Breast Jewel, prepared for a whisky glass with additional personalised detail.

Reference and Context

The Royal Arch Breast Jewel is a recognised symbol within Freemasonry, associated with a defined stage of progression. Its form is structured and detailed, requiring careful preparation to ensure clarity when translated to glass.

Preparation and Engraving

The Royal Arch jewel contains a considerable amount of internal detail, including fine lettering and symbolic elements that benefit from being engraved at a sufficient scale.

Because of this, the design was not reduced simply to create additional space for personalisation. Instead, the inscription was incorporated into the composition itself. The recipient's name was positioned either side of the lower section of the jewel, while the date was placed beneath, allowing the personal detail to remain visible without competing with the central symbol.

This approach preserved the clarity of the engraving while maintaining balance across the face of the glass.

Outcome

The finished glass presents the Royal Arch jewel as a clear, balanced engraving, with personalisation incorporated into the layout rather than added as a separate element.

A detailed symbol, adapted to the proportions of the glass while preserving both clarity and meaning.

Many commissions combine established symbolic artwork with personal inscriptions marking a particular office, milestone or achievement. If you have a jewel, badge, crest or ceremonial emblem you would like engraved, the studio can prepare the artwork and develop a layout suited to the chosen piece.
