Chaucer Lodge 150th Anniversary – Firing Glass Commission

From Our Archive – Bespoke Lodge Commissions
Some of the most memorable commissions are those that ask for simplicity with meaning. For the 150th anniversary of Chaucer Lodge, founded in 1875, we were asked to prepare sixty engraved firing glasses — one for every brother attending the celebration.
The order came from Paul, who was also to be installed as the 150th Worshipful Master. Rather than reproducing the lodge’s intricate crest, he wanted something refined and symbolic. Together we settled on the sprig of acacia — a quiet emblem of immortality and remembrance within Freemasonry.
Each glass was engraved individually by John in our Fife studio, the wording “Chaucer Lodge 1875 – 2025” placed above the sprig. Though identical in design, every glass passed through John’s hands — a testament to the discipline and steadiness required to maintain such precision across a full set.
It was a project that balanced restraint with symbolism, marking both a personal milestone and a century and a half of continuous fellowship.
