Symbol & Skill: The Story Behind Our Royal Arch Engravings

In our Fife studio this week, John engraved a personalised Royal Arch Breast Jewel onto one of our classic whisky glasses — a piece that carries more than just decorative value. It’s a quiet act of remembrance, recognition, and tradition.

For those unfamiliar with the symbol, the Royal Arch Breast Jewel is one of the most meaningful emblems in Freemasonry. Worn with pride by Companions of the Royal Arch, it represents a pivotal stage in Masonic progression — and its inclusion on a glass is never just ornamental. It’s personal.

A Craft Honed Over Decades

John, who co-founded Just The Ticket, brings over 35 years of specialist Masonic engraving experience to every glass. Before setting up our studio, he worked for a well-known Masonic supplier, engraving countless jewels, gifts, and ceremonial items.

His process hasn’t changed much in all that time. He still uses traditional sandblasting — a technique that allows for both precision and depth. Each piece is handled slowly and individually, masked by hand, then carefully engraved under pressure.

More Than a Gift

This particular glass is being engraved with a personalised touch: the recipient’s name, and significant dates.

It’s being given as a thank-you — a meaningful token from one Companion to another. Something to raise at the festive board, and to keep long after the toasts have been made.

Why We Do What We Do

We’ve engraved glasses for all branches of Freemasonry — from Craft Officers to Knights Templar, Mark Masters to the Scarlet Cord. And while not every customer tells us the full story, the care taken in their requests always speaks volumes.

For us, it’s not just about glass. It’s about making something with meaning. Something lasting.
