From Photograph to Glass: The Story Behind a One-of-a-Kind Father’s Day Gift

When we were asked to engrave a Marshall amplifier circuit board onto a pint glass for a Father’s Day gift, we knew this was more than just another project. It was personal. The original amplifier had been part of years of memories, music played, moments shared, a quiet nod to a passion that had shaped the family’s life.
Our customer sent us a photograph of the circuit board, detailed, intricate, full of fine lines and connections. From there, the process began: carefully preparing the artwork, adapting it to suit the tall profile of a pint glass. Engraving a design like this isn’t as simple as reducing it to fit; it had to be rethought, redrawn in a way that respected both the original photo and the proportions of the glass.
Working closely with the customer, we decided to engrave the design in portrait format, allowing it to run the full length of the glass, around 16 to 18 centimetres, capturing as much of the circuit detail as possible. As a finishing touch, we engraved the word ‘Dad’ in the same script style as the iconic Marshall logo, a small personal addition that made the glass uniquely theirs.
The engraving process is always deliberate. First, the artwork is transferred to a stencil, which is then carefully applied to the glass. Using traditional sandblasting techniques, slow, steady, and precise , the design is etched into the surface, not simply printed or marked. The result is a texture that becomes part of the glass itself, permanent and tangible.
After the engraving, the stencils are carefully peeled away by hand, revealing the final piece. There’s always a quiet moment of pause at the end, a satisfaction that only comes from knowing something has been made properly, with care and attention at every step.
At Just The Ticket, we believe the best gifts are the ones that can’t be found on a shelf. They take time, thought, and a personal story. Whether it’s a tribute to a passion, a memory captured, or simply a way of saying thank you, it’s the craft behind the piece that makes it lasting.
If you’re thinking about a one-of-a-kind gift for Father’s Day, or for any day, we’re always ready to help bring those stories to life.
