Crafting for Community: A Plaque with a Smile
Share
Some commissions are about more than the engraving, they’re about the people they celebrate.
Earlier this year, we were asked to create a special plaque for a much-loved local initiative: The Pantry.
The Pantry isn’t a food bank, it’s a community hub, offering access to fresh produce, essentials, and a welcoming space for everyone, for a small weekly cost. It brings people together, and in doing so, it creates its own quiet culture of belonging and support.
The plaque we engraved was a light-hearted addition to the Pantry’s annual community event, the Kings of the Pantry Award, celebrating some of the volunteers’ good-natured rivalries and in-jokes.
Proudly awarded to the Saline Farmacy’s Veg-Tastic & Fruit-Alicious stall (much to the playful disappointment of The Flour Garden Doughnuts), the plaque is now displayed every Wednesday during Pantry time.
Why Craft Matters in Small Moments
While many of our commissions mark milestones, some of the most meaningful are about celebrating community and connection.
Carefully engraved in a way that reflects the humour and heart of the Pantry volunteers, this project reminded us that craft isn’t just for grand occasions, it’s for the everyday moments that bring people together.
Small batch. Hand finished. Made to last, and sometimes, made to make people smile.
