Ben Nevis, Memory, and a Farewell Gift of Honour

When we craft a bespoke piece of glassware, we’re always aware that it might find its way into some very meaningful moments.
But every so often, a story comes along that reminds us just how deeply glass can hold memory, honour, and history.
Recently, we engraved two whisky glasses with a design of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest peak, a piece commissioned as a farewell gift.
But these glasses weren’t destined for a shelf or a quiet evening dram, They were presented to the Slovak Ambassador, marking the end of his tour of duty.

The connection between Ben Nevis and Slovakia runs deep:
During the Second World War, Czechoslovak soldiers trained in the rugged, wild terrain around Fort William, Mallaig, and the slopes of Ben Nevis as part of the Special Operations Executive (SOE).
Their legacy is quietly honoured at Arisaig, where a monument stands overlooking the sea, a reminder of courage, resilience, and the ties between nations forged in difficult times.

Engraving the outline of Ben Nevis onto glass, a form both strong and delicate, seemed a fitting tribute.
It’s a reminder that places, like people, carry memory.
And that a simple glass can hold far more than whisky, It can hold gratitude, history, and the quiet honour of service remembered.
